I'm probably a good person to comment here, seeing as I use an iMac Pro, an i9 MacBook Pro, an 11" iPad Pro and a Pixel 3 XL. Sorry for the long explanation, but I hope this helped.

Unlike Mac, Windows laptops come in all budget requirements and are pretty powerful too.

I would suggest, if you can afford it, get a basic Windows PC just for maintaining your files (trust me, you will find other uses for it too in the long run).

However, other third party android apps have many more glitches when it comes to syncing the phone with a Mac. Once it does, then most of it is easy with the Samsung app. You will need to go into settings and enable it as a trusted device (this happened to me with one of my Android phones when I was using Samsung).

First off, you need your device to be recognised which might not happen the first time. However, even an App like Samsung has its glitches when syncing the phone. For example, you have a dedicated Samsung App for the MacOS if you are planning on buying a Samsung phone. When it comes to connecting and syncing an Android phone, you would need a third party app. Apple locks their devices to use seamlessly only within their ecosystem. When it comes to appearance, Mac rules, but Windows makes moving and copying files so seamless with any device. I love my Mac, but I have also used Windows laptops for a very long time. It's absolute garbage when it comes to syncing an Android phone with a Mac. Good luck on your journey! I think you'll experience a few teething issues but you'll be OK. I have the Android because i like gadgets. i have one but my "daily driver" is a XS Max. you mentioned poor updates and that will likely continue unless you use a Pixel. But you'll likely just live in Google Play both on your Android or Mac. ITunes won't be as useful to you anymore. One thing you'll want to make sure you do is remove your iPhone from iCloud and switch off iMessage on your iPhone. The only thing would be to get as many of your friends and family to use WhatsApp, too (it's actually quite a good application). There are things like iMessage that simply won't work since there's no Android version but you should be able to switch to WhatsApp on both Android and your Mac. The first thing I'd do is take stock of all the apps that i use that sync to iCloud specifically and find Andoid variants. I sparingly use WhatsApp, Viber, or Signal for friends/family overseas.

I've been using Chrome for a long while so that should ease any transition.įor texting, I'd probably use stock SMS/Android Messaging app. I use Gmail and Gcal regularly, backup to Google Photos, though my music is mostly through iTunes/Apple Music. I have a fair mix of using some Google Services with Apple Hardware. Again, syncing/backing up to local storage is a big plus when one needs to restore/reset their device Smaller things like sharing Wi-Fi passwords between devices is a cool bonus but not essential. AirDrop is another easy, quick thing for file sharing. Tried using Keep before but for whatever reason, the ease/simplicity/syncing of Apple Notes is great. I'm really tied into Apple Notes which is going to be a little hard moving away from. Another feature i really like is being able to control iTunes with the Remote app to change songs or navigate my library. I really like the ability to take calls/texts/Facetime from my laptop when my phone isn't handy or charging.
